New for 2021 – the perfect gift to go with a bag of our whole cob corn!

Picnic tables are $50 in raw cedar, or $75 with two coats of finish.  Each table comes with a complimentary bag of cob corn!

When we started selling bagged whole cob corn a couple of years ago, I really wanted to build squirrel picnic tables to go along with it.  As I searched for design ideas, I kept running across a lot of really shoddy products – picnic tables made out of raw pine or treated lumber, with ragged edges, sharp corners and crooked assemblies.

As a professional carpenter, woodworker and general contractor, I’ve always had a meticulous eye for quality.  I can’t stand to do something poorly.  I decided that if I was going to build these little tables, then by golly they were going to be the best I could muster.  Consequently, these tables are made of premium western red cedar, which holds up well in the outdoor elements and has a beautiful appearance.  Every piece has been resawn to exacting dimensions.  Generous routing and hand sanding have eased off sharp, splintery edges.  Nails are hidden wherever possible.  The attached backboard for mounting the table to trees, fence posts or building walls can be removed if you prefer to set the table on a flat surface.  The screw that holds the ears of corn is also removable, if you prefer to put a dish of shelled corn or other goodies on the table top.

Raw, unfinished tables can be left to weather naturally (though this will shorten their lifespan somewhat), or you can apply a paint or finish of your choice.  If you opt for the finished version, I will apply two coats of General Finishes Outdoor Oil, which soaks into the wood before drying, and which offers excellent protection from water and UV rays.

The first table I made hangs on a big cedar tree outside our dining room window.  Every day we get a huge kick out of our furry patrons dining at our cozy establishment!
