Whole Cob Corn
Great for Squirrels, Pheasants, and other Wildlife
Bags of cob corn are $7 each with sales tax included – so $6.46 plus 8.375% sales tax. They weigh between 35 and 40 lbs, and contain approximately 90 ears.
As a farmer, whenever I would walk through the big-box farm stores and see a little package of cob corn for sale, I’d always get kinda riled up, staring at those dinky bags with 12 ears of corn and an outrageous price tag. It’s one thing to charge a markup, but at some point it starts to look downright greedy. Gosh sakes! Now I’m all worked up again.
Is ear corn really all that rare? I suppose there aren’t many farms like ours left, where we harvest the whole ears of corn and dry them in wire cribs. It’s a testament to a little bit slower way of doing things and following the natural cycles of the seasons. We don’t need a huge combine to bring in the harvest, nor do we need thousands of gallons of propane to dry it down. It’s a good system for a small farm, and the side benefit is that I get to offer you a decent sized bag of ear corn at a price that makes sense!
Whole cob corn can be fed on the ground, in a homemade feeder, or it really goes great with our Squirrel Picnic Tables! Check them out!
